Q. What are the common worries about renting a kimono if you are tall or curvy?

If you have a taller frame or a curvier body type, you might worry: “Will they have my size?” or “Are the large size kimonos boring and old-fashioned?”
Here are the top 4 concerns we hear from tall (170cm+) and plus-size guests:

  • Sleeves or length too short: Your wrists stick out too much, or the kimono cannot fold properly at the waist.
  • Not enough width: The front of the kimono opens up while walking.
  • Expensive “Plus Size” upgrade fees: The base price is cheap, but you are forced to pay a lot extra just because you need a larger size.
  • No large shoes: Many shops don’t carry Zori sandals over 25cm for women or 28cm for men.

Q. How does MOCOMOCO compare to regular kimono shops? (Comparison Table)

At MOCOMOCO, we believe every guest should be able to choose their favorite design without worrying about extra fees due to their body type.

Q. How do professionals style kimonos to make you look slimmer?

When worn correctly, kimonos can actually flatter your figure better than regular clothes! Here are the secret styling tips from our professional dressers:

  1. 【Shrinking Colors & Vertical Lines】: Choosing darker colors (black, burgundy, navy) or vertical stripes creates a slimming effect. A black lace kimono with a white obi sash is extremely popular among curvy girls!
  2. 【Add a Haori Jacket】: Wearing a “Haori” (kimono jacket) over your kimono beautifully covers the hips and back, while adding a chic, retro Taisho-Roman vibe.
  3. 【Draw Attention to the Center】: Showing a bit more of the inner collar elongates the neck. Using a bright Obi accessory or lace collar draws the eye to the center, dramatically improving body proportions.

Q. Can tall and big men wear kimonos? (Up to 200cm)

“My boyfriend is over 185cm…” or “He works out and has broad shoulders, will a kimono fit?” Don’t worry!
MOCOMOCO’s Men’s Kimono Plan (¥4,400) offers sizes from S all the way up to 5L.

  • Height Support: From 160cm to approx. 200cm
  • Waist/Hips: Up to approx. 125cm
  • Men’s Shoes: Large Setta sandals over 29cm are available

If you are traveling as a couple, we highly recommend the Couple Kimono Plan (¥9,900), which saves you ¥1,100! It even includes beautiful hair styling for her.
