Because it’s right near the bus stop, we didn’t have to carry our heavy suitcases up the long slope to Kiyomizu-dera. They stored our luggage for free, and starting our sightseeing hands-free was the best!
Just a few steps outside and the five-story pagoda was right there! The area is packed with photo spots like Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka. Even though we weren’t used to wearing Zori sandals, we didn’t feel tired at all.
We planned to walk from Kiyomizu-dera through Ninenzaka straight down to Gion, so we used the free cross-branch return service. Our legs were exhausted by evening, so not having to climb back up the hill was a lifesaver.
